Elephant Ears

This blog is dedicated to the political happenings in the Valley and Southwest Virginia. As the the name implies, this blog will have posts based on what is heard by this elephant's (GOPer's) ears. It is also a great treat to get while at the county fair or a carnival.

Great Day to be a Hokie

The Hokie Football team won the Gator Bowl against Louisville 35-24 today, even after a bad first half and terrible officiating. The team should be ranked in the top 10 (hopefully top 5) after all the bowls are over. The Hokie Basketball team then beat JMU 77-58.
Its a great day to be a Hokie.

UPDATE: The RTD is reporting that Marcus has been given 3 options: Declare for the NFL Draft, except a one game suspension next season, or transfer to a Div. I-AA team (like JMU).
It looks like something will be done about this, even thought many may think it is not enough.

    VICK IS A THUG......

Beamer should have sat him immediately.....

Beamer defended him initially and should also be held accountable. i have never been a Tech fan, so I can't say it has changed my feelings. But i will say that as a Virginian I am embarrassed that someone like that represents the Old Dominion.

Agreed that Marcus shouldn't have done that. He is certainly far from a good representative of VT, but he will start next year. The only thing that could change that is Ike Whitaker. If he is very good, its possible that he could jump Marcus. That being said, many alums love Marcus and Beamer will get tremendous pressure to keep him in (Beamer caught hell for playing the experienced randall in front of the rookie Vick in '03).
I wish it was different, but money rules the athletic dept. If we are going to convince Beamer to bench Marcus, there needs to be lots of letters sent and lots of money withheld to make it happen.

Well as I said before, unless Whitaker is as good as advertised, we don't have another QB. They dont pay Beamer 2 mil a year to play the 3rd best QB on the team.
Marcus wont be removed unless Whitaker is as good or probably better.

So, what matters is whether there is a good quarterback waiting in the wings, not what's good for the school's reputation or the ethical thing to do?

That is probably what the decision will be based on yes.
