Elephant Ears

This blog is dedicated to the political happenings in the Valley and Southwest Virginia. As the the name implies, this blog will have posts based on what is heard by this elephant's (GOPer's) ears. It is also a great treat to get while at the county fair or a carnival.

24th Update

VCAP Blog has the lowdown on the official announcement today from primary challenger Scott Sayre. It seemed to be interesting day, having five seperate locations for his kickoff. In a district of that size, it was probably a good idea; that way he could have 50 people at each and say he had 250 total (whereas it would be very tough to get 250 to one place). It sounds like it was pretty successful, so we will see what happens next in this race.

I have not heard when Sen. Hanger's campaign kickoff will be, but will update everyone when I find out.

This campaign in my very humble opinion is a complete waste of time. Fiscal conservatism might be enough to win over voters in some parts of the state but it takes mainly social conservatism in the Valley and I just don't see the anger necessary(with the exception of a handful of VCAP folks) to even make this race competitive. Hanger seems like a good pro-lifer who seems popular with the average voter right now.

m2c, I basically agree with you about this... But uncontested seats are boring, and this gives us bloggers something to write about.

contested seats mean more losses to the dems in november.

I agree that sometimes we need to wake up the voters. I have known Scott for more than 40 years, and I will endorse his campaign. Sen. Hanger had done a good job, but we need a more proactive senator, a more defined stance, and someone who is more in touch with the needs of the Valley. Scott is the man for that.
