Morgan Freeman is Right On
Over at NewsMax there is an article on Morgan Freeman blasting "Black History Month". He said in an interview with 60 Minutes that things like Black History Month only promote racism and need to be eliminated. He also pointed out that people need to start referring to each other as Americans, not blacks or whites.
Morgan is right on the money.

Trust me, being a graduate student in American history, I come across this stuff all the time. Modern american history has been segragated into "black," "asian," "gender," "gay," "labor," and every other catagory you can think of. While those stories need to be told, they are often written in a historical vaccum judged by our values, not those of the past. What has happened, at least in higher education history, is the narrative is lost. We understand history only in catagories, not as a total American narrative. But at least here at George Mason, nearly every grad student in my classes all have revolted at this approach. Hopefully, the old school will be back. But Freeman is right, What happens is when these histories are written, it either marganilizes or overblows that group's role in our history. In fact, I nearly had my head taken off one day in class for making the same argument about Black History month by a professor.

Thats why its better when people like Morgan Freeman and Bill Cosby make these type of comments. It's a little harder for people to call them racists than us (even though some try).
