Elephant Ears

This blog is dedicated to the political happenings in the Valley and Southwest Virginia. As the the name implies, this blog will have posts based on what is heard by this elephant's (GOPer's) ears. It is also a great treat to get while at the county fair or a carnival.

Home Prices on the Rise

Over at Republitarian I have a post up on Virginia home price growth.
The Harrisonburg and Winchester areas are leading the growth in 2006, while NOVA is actually forecasted to have a decline.

If you are interested in housing prices there are two good places to look, Inman News, and Zillow.com. Zillow is a new website and may not be up yet, it was founded by the creators of Expedia.com. Inman gives a lot of news on national and regional markets, while Zillow is designed to make all public records about sales, taxes, comparable homes, etc. available to the consumer. Real Estate has always been an up and down business, in two or three years it good be a great time to buy a home. Most homebuilders are forecasting slow downs for the next year or two. A couple of weekends ago the homebuilder Centex was offering a sale for one day $100,000 off all new homes that sold, it was in the Wash. Post. Remember, that 8% price increase was only a prediction.

Very good point. Even so, the valley seems to have stronger and more sustainable growth b/c there are both retirees moving in as well as families.
