Elephant Ears

This blog is dedicated to the political happenings in the Valley and Southwest Virginia. As the the name implies, this blog will have posts based on what is heard by this elephant's (GOPer's) ears. It is also a great treat to get while at the county fair or a carnival.

Newt Speaks Out

Human Events has quite possibily the greatest article ever by former Speaker Newt Gingrich.
He says the GOP can win in 3 weeks if we focus on economic policy, our values vs. Nancy Pelosi/San Francisco values, and defeating terrorism vs. trying to appease the terrorists.

Its a long article, but its worth it. I encourage every conservative out there to read it.

Not all Dems are Pelosi liberals. That strategy would backfire badly. The GOP is loosing ground on representing middle America. Economic policy? This might work if you can run away from the past years of blown chances by the party...has the government really gotten smaller? Now really you can't keep a straight face and answer that one! Defeating the terrorist? Wow a report is leaking that seems to point another direction. Iraq has turned into a nightmare for our service people. We can't leave and we can't really win! Saying that DEMS are appeasing terrorist is down right wrong on so many levels (speaking of that has the terrorist level raised...wait it's not a week before the election yet!)

Many Republicans are voting against the party this year! For all of the above reasons and so many more.

They may not be Pelosi liberals, but a vote for them is a vote for Speaker Pelosi. I have a feeling there will be some ads saying something to that effect in the next few weeks.
Also, Newt Gingrich's economic conservatism is 100x better than Bush's.

It's not Newt we are talking about...it's the folks in the party that so easily followed Bush down the path of expanding our Federal Government.

Newt's plan would work if the facts didn't point the other direction.

4:52, thats why we need someone like Newt in the White House in '08.
I can assure you a Newt Gingrich presidency would not consist of letting Teddy Kennedy write the education bill or never using the veto.

Newt 08? It will never happen and would be political suicide for the GOP.

I wish he could run, but I agree that he probably could not win.
You never know though, people don't seem to care about martial infidelity much anymore in politics.
The problem is Newt would be running as a Republican, not a dem.

Economic policy: Ha, while the usual indicators of economic growth are doing okay, individual people that make up the electorate are not doing well. Trickle down is more like trickled on.

Values: Ha, even evangelicals realize they've been had.

Terrorism, blah, blah, blah: You guys can't trot it out forever when reality is flying straight in your face. YOU HAVE MADE US LESS SAFE.
